Orthopaedic Advisory Board (OAB)

Internationally renowned bedding manufacturer, Sealy, has had a long association with orthopaedic health dating back to the introduction if its first Posturepedic in the 1950’s ~  a mattress developed in conjunction with Dr. Robert G. Addison and other highly respected orthopaedic surgeons.

In 2006, this heritage evolved into Sealy taking the initiative of creating the Orthopaedic Advisory Board (OAB) to assist with its ongoing effort to further innovate and advance its range; whilst also fulfilling its corporate mission of helping the world to sleep better.

Made up of top orthopaedic surgeons, researchers and clinicians from leading universities and medical centres, the OAB is a counsel of seven experts (including Dr Addison) who provide Sealy with informed professional insights into the nature of sleep ~ and specialist input into the up-to=date design and development of new bed and mattress products which better meet the evolving needs of modern consumers.

Already, the positive impact and influence of the OAB is evident in the creation of the unique Sealy Posturepedic® innerspring; an advance which features an‘orthopedically correct design’ that minimises pressure points and reduces tossing and turning.

Orthopaedically Correct Design explained

The Orthopaedic Advisory Board (OAB) has been responsible for developing the concept and also defining the measures and criteria for Orthopaedically Correct Design.

Here is the essence of what it means and how it works ~

  • The more supportive the mattress is, the more pressure points are created
  • The more pressure relief the mattress offers, the less support you get
  • To eliminate tossing and turning from uncomfortable pressure points, you need the perfect balance of proper back support and targeted pressure relief
  • This is what defines Orthopaedically Correct Design

Forty Winks carry a range of Sealy Posturepedic beds approved by the OAB. Every staff member is trained to be able to help you find the right bed for your needs. Come in and try the range of beds endorsed by the OAB:
