If you’re looking to hit the refresh button on your interiors, your bedroom is a great place to start. A bedroom upgrade that incorporates clever styling and storage solutions can have a huge impact on the look and feel of your home.

In celebration of The Block 2023, we’re looking back at the top five bedroom trends that caught our eye this season. Read on to discover how you can transform your primary, guest or kids’ bedrooms into a cosy sleep sanctuary worthy of your Pinterest board.

Statement bedheads

Chances are, your bed takes up most of the floor space in your bedroom – so let it do the heavy lifting when it comes to styling. A statement bedhead can serve as a great centrepiece and instantly transform your sleep space.

Take inspiration from Leah and Ash in House 2, who used the Forty Winks Avenue Upholstered Bedhead & Samos Base in Plush Brinjal in the master bedroom. Available in a wide range of upholstery fabrics, this bedhead can be customised to suit your personal style. And with its sweeping dimensions and luxurious texture, it’s sure to make a statement wherever it’s placed.

Leah and Ash also chose the Forty Winks Lush Upholstered Bedhead with Ascent Deluxe Upholstered Gas Lift base in Beachcomber Aqua for one of the kids’ bedrooms. Together with the colourful bedding, artwork and wall decals, this whimsical design instantly drew the eye and helped create an uplifting atmosphere.

Natural elements

Natural hues and earthy textures were incredibly popular this year, with several contestants using them to bring the outside in and create serene, relaxing spaces. For their master bedroom, Kyle and Leslie in House 1 chose a soft, neutral colour palette, sheer curtains, and the Forty Winks Samos Upholstered Floating Bed Base in Lexus Natural. The result? A tranquil space flooded with natural light during the day and gently illuminated in the evening.

Take your cue from Eliza and Liberty in House 5 and bring a sense of the outdoors into your bedroom by using plant inspired patterns and prints. For one of their kids bedrooms, they incorporated a statement wallpaper, combined with calming green and neutral hues to create a serene sleeping environment. The Forty Winks Bella Bed Frame with Gas Lift Storage completes this soothing space, providing the perfect foundation to drift off in a relaxed slumber.

Smart storage

There’s nothing worse than an untidy bedroom – not only can it cause stress and anxiety, it can also affect the quality of your sleep. On this season of The Block, we loved seeing spacious, inviting bedrooms that were devoid of any clutter.

Opting for bedroom furniture with built-in storage was key. Eliza and Liberty in House 5 used the Forty Winks Tori Upholstered Bedhead & Crete 4-Drawer Base. With draws built into the base, it’s perfect for keeping shoes, toys, linen – or anything else that tends to end up strewn across the floor – out of sight.

Meanwhile, Kristy and Brett in House 3 used the Forty Winks Lincoln Bedside Table in one of their kids’ bedrooms, providing a great place to stow away electrical devices before bed for a good night’s rest.

Sleep first

Our bedrooms are our sanctuaries, and we often use them for more than just sleep – reading books, meditating, practising yoga, catching up on our favourite TV shows… the list goes on. But on this season of The Block, we saw the contestants bring sleep back into the bedroom and make it the main focus of the space with ultra-comfortable and supportive mattresses.

In the master bedrooms, the Forty Winks Silent Partner Bellagio Mattress was the mattress of choice. With its premium wool blend fabric, gel-infused memory foam, and unique technology to minimise motion transfer and partner disturbance, it is designed to conform to your body’s unique shape and offer total comfort and care while you sleep.

The Forty Winks Active Sleep Venetian Mattress was also featured in several of the kids’ bedrooms. The three-zone nested pocketed spring system contours and supports your body while you sleep, while a breathable gusset around the top of the mattress promotes air flow and helps to regulate heat – perfect for summer nights!

Thoughtful additions

This season of The Block revealed just how important a good wind-down routine is before bed, with several of the contestants incorporating breakout zones to promote rest and relaxation. For example, Steph and Gian in House 4 designed a kids’ bedroom with a small play area featuring the Forty Winks Boori Thetis Square Table and Forty Winks Boori Thetis Chairs

If you have the floor space, a breakout lounge area – as seen in Steph and Gian’s master bedroom – can set the scene for an array of relaxing activities before bed.
