The chilly season is upon us, and with the chill comes gloomy weather and longer nights. But winter is also the perfect time to enjoy the warmth and comfort of your bedroom. Here are our favourite simple tips to get your sleep sanctuary winter-ready.

1. Use wool bedding to keep your bed mould and mildew free

Good quality bedding is essential in staying warm and cosy during long winter nights. Bedding made from wool is perfect for winter because it's 'breathable'. It absorbs and releases moisture which prevents the damp conditions in which mould and mildew thrive. Wool also helps your body thermoregulate, it keeps your body warm and dry in cold temperatures. Due to its thermoregulatory and moisture management properties, wool bedding is ideal for people who experience hot-flashes and night sweats.

2. Style your bed with texture

Heighten the sense of cosiness and comfort in your bedroom by adding textures to your bed. Chunky knitted blankets, thick furry throws and soft cushions can help make your bed look and feel even more inviting in the cold.

3. Opt for soft white light

Lighting plays a significant role in creating a sense of warmth and comfort in your bedroom. Avoid using fluorescent light in your bedroom. Instead, opt for soft white light bulbs (2700k to 3,000 Kelvin) that give off a warm and cosy glow - ideal for your bedroom setting.

4. Keep the damp away with a dehumidifier

Winter weather is wet and damp and for homes that are not properly insulated or lack sufficient heating, increased moisture and condensation presents a problem; mould and mildew thrive in damp conditions. Minimise the dampness and likelihood of mould in your bedroom with a good dehumidifier.

5. Create a cosier ambience with darker shades of warm colours

Introducing darker shades of warm colours such as burgundy, aubergine and chestnut to your bedroom setting can create a sense of warmth and luxury.
