Buying a new mattress isn’t something you do every day, so why not keep it clean, shiny and allergen-free with a mattress protector? Stains that many of us think are a normal part of bedding wear and tear don’t have to be!

An average person loses a litre of water through perspiration during sleep! In addition to sweat, skin flakes, everyday spills and odours seep into our bedding which can be problematic to clean. All of this becomes food for dust mites that also contribute to the growth of mould and bacteria. Did you know, up to  half the weight of a poorly or unprotected mattress is made up of our own bodily fluids, skin cells, bacteria and mould after just 5 years? Quite an unpleasant fact to learn!

Despite their tiny size, a dust mite produces 10-20 waste particles a day. Each of which contains a protein known to trigger allergic reactions and asthma from which about 10% of the population suffers from. So, if you are having trouble sleeping, perhaps waking up with a blocked or runny nose, or suffering from allergies, asthma or eczema, one possible cause or trigger could be the common house dust mite that shares your bed.

Washing your bedding weekly in water hotter than 55°C is recommended to help eliminate dust mites and wash away any allergens, however this may not be adequate to keep your bed hygienic if it is not properly protected as bacteria will likely have trickled into your mattress and continue to exist in your mattress.

Protect-A-Bed’s soft and comfortable Miracle Layer is waterproof, breathable and provides an effective barrier against dust mite allergens whilst also ensuring your mattress and pillows are safeguarded against sweat, dead skin and stains. A waterproof protector stops the fluids from penetrating the bed and clean-up is as easy as changing the protector and putting it in the wash.

In order to ensure the validity of the warranty, most mattress brands also require a protector to be used on your mattress. A mattress protector then becomes a way to protect your investment in addition to shielding your mattress from dust mites and stains!
