Kids bed frames

Single and king single bed frames sized for growing kids' rooms, including a few storage styles that help keep toys, books and clothes out of the way as the room fills up.

About kids beds

A kids bed has to survive growth spurts, sleepovers and the odd trampoline impression, and still look good in the room. This range brings together single and king single bed frames and bases, plus a few long single bases, including storage, gas lift and trundle styles, so you can find a bed that keeps up with a growing child without stretching the budget past $1,000.

Which bed size is right for a child?

Most kids move from a cot straight into a single bed (92cm x 188cm), which fits comfortably in a smaller bedroom and leaves floor space for play. A long single (92cm x 203cm) adds 15cm of leg room for a child who is already tall for their age, and a king single (107cm x 203cm) gives teenagers room to stretch out without needing a double. If the bed needs to last from primary school into the teenage years, a king single is usually the size that saves you buying twice. Our bed size guide sets the dimensions out side by side.

Storage, gas lift and trundle styles for kids rooms

Kids rooms fill up fast, which is why a lot of this range works harder than a plain frame:

  • Drawer beds tuck toys, books and spare linen under the mattress, where they are easy for small hands to reach.

  • Gas lift beds raise the whole mattress to reveal a full-length storage compartment, handy for bulky things like doonas and sports gear.

  • Trundle beds hide a second mattress underneath, ready to roll out for a sleepover or a visiting cousin.

  • Bookshelf bedheads keep bedtime reading within arm's reach and free up the bedside table.

A simple upholstered or timber frame is still a good choice where the room has a wardrobe and a chest of drawers already doing the storage job.

Pairing the bed with the right kids mattress

A bed frame or base needs a mattress to match, and for kids that means support first. Our kids mattresses come in the same single, long single and king single sizes, from easy-care foam through to pocket spring, with slim low-profile options made for bunks and trundles. Add a mattress protector from day one; it is the easiest way to keep a child's mattress fresh through accidents and spills.
