Mattress Care Tips

  • Air your new mattress

Let it breathe for a few hours before making the bed. Any "new mattress" smell will fade.

  • Give your body time to adjust

It can take up to three months to get used to the feel and support of a new mattress.

  • How often to rotate your mattress

Rotate head to foot every two weeks for the first three months, then three to four times a year so it wears evenly.

  • Use a supportive bed base

A strong base with centre support stops your mattress dipping and helps it last longer.

  • Always use a mattress protector

A waterproof mattress protector guards against sweat, spills and humidity, and helps keep your warranty valid.

  • How to clean a mattress

Vacuum regularly, blot stains with a little cold water and never soak or scrub.

  • Handle your mattress with care

Don't bend, fold or jump on it, and always use two people to move it.

  • Keep your warranty paperwork

Hold onto your receipt, warranty documents and the law tag in case you need to make a claim.

Furniture & bedding Care

Furniture care tips: bed frames, bases and bedroom furniture

  1. Timber furniture care. Dust timber bed frames, bedsides and tallboys with a soft, dry cloth, following the grain.
  2. Upholstered bed frame cleaning. Vacuum fabric bed frames and bedheads with a soft brush attachment and blot stains rather than rubbing.
  3. Avoid harsh cleaners. Skip silicone sprays and household chemicals that can damage timber, fabric and leather finishes.
  4. Protect from sun damage. Australian sun can fade fabric and dry out timber, so use blinds or curtains in sunny rooms.
  5. Bed base support. Make sure your bed base or ensemble base has strong centre support, with slats evenly spaced to prevent sagging.
  6. Adjustable base care. Keep cables clear of moving parts, check nothing is underneath before lowering, and never sit on the raised head or foot section. Stay within the manufacturer's weight limits.
  7. Tighten bolts regularly. Check bolts every few months to keep your bed frame sturdy and squeak-free.
  8. Lift, don't drag. Always lift furniture and bases when moving them, and use felt pads to protect your floors.

Bedding care tips: how to wash sheets, quilts and pillows

  1. How often to wash sheets. Wash sheets and pillowcases once a week, or more often in hot weather.
  2. Follow bedding care labels. Always check the label before washing, especially for down quilts, wool quilts and specialty fabrics.
  3. Washing cotton, linen and bamboo sheets. Use a mild detergent, skip fabric softener on bamboo and linen, and avoid high heat to prevent shrinking and pilling.
  4. Line dry in the shade. It keeps sheets soft and helps stop colours fading.
  5. Pillow care and replacement. Use a pillow protector, fluff pillows daily and replace them every one to two years.
  6. How to store bedding. Keep spare sheets and quilts in breathable cotton bags in a cool, dry place, never in plastic.
