What makes a mattress plush
A plush mattress uses deeper or softer comfort layers, such as memory foam, gel-infused foam, latex, natural fibres or a pillow-top, so you sink in a little further when you lie down. Underneath, the support system, often zoned pocket springs or a coil unit, keeps doing its job. Plush describes the first feel, not the amount of support, so a well-made plush mattress cushions you without letting you sag.
Who tends to prefer a plush feel
Side sleepers often choose plush because the extra cushioning lets the shoulder and hip settle in. Lighter sleepers may also find plush more comfortable, because they do not press as far into a firmer surface. If you like to feel cradled when you get into bed, plush is a good place to start; if you prefer to lie on top of the mattress, try medium or firm instead.
